Voyager Legend UC Microsoft Version (B235-M) Troubleshooting: Mute Doesn't Work with Polycom VVX500

As soon as I mute my Voyager Legend headset connected to a Polycom VVX500 setup with a Lync phone via the USB adapter, the phone unmutes itself. What is the issue?
This is a phone firmware issue with version 5.0. Polycom fixed this issue in 5.0.1. The fix has been verified by Plantronics.
