How to do a Factory Restore on a Group Series 300, 310, 500, 550 (with or without USB)

This video shows you how to do a factory restore on Group Series models 300, 310, 500, and 550.   To start, you need these parts:
  1. The Group Series codec.
  2. The monitor with HDMI input.
  3. The codec power cord.
  4. The HDMI cable.
  5. If you are performing a factory restore with a USB, you also need a USB storage device with the software version and system key code on it. Using the USB erases the Group Series software stored in its SD card factory partition, then installs the software from the USB instead.
Please see our video on preparing a USB before proceeding. You can find the link here:   How to Prepare a USB to install software during a Group Series Factory Restore
  1. To start the factory restore, either with or without the USB, turn off your Group Series codec using the power button.
    • Do not unplug the power cord, HDMI cable, or monitor.
  2. If you are using a USB, insert it at this time.
    • The USB port is on the back of the codec.
*The next steps are the same with or without the USB.
  1. Straighten a paperclip and insert it into the pinhole on the bottom of the device.
  2. Using the paperclip, press and hold the restore button.
  3. While holding the restore button, press the power button once.
  4. Continue to hold the restore button for approximately 13 seconds, until the front LED starts flashing alternating blue and amber. Then release it.
    • Please note that using a USB will add an extra 20 minutes to the beginning of the restore. During that time, all screens will be blank and the LED will quickly flash between blue and amber.
  5. If during the factory restore process you see a red constant light, please stop the restore by removing the power cord. Create an RMA order with the failure note “Red light indication during Factory Restore.”
  6. During the factory restore process, the system displays the Polycom startup screen and the usual software update screens on HDMI monitors. Do not power off the system during the factory restore process. The system restarts automatically several times until the process is complete. This may take about 50 minutes.
  7. After finishing the process, connect a LAN cable and configure the RealPresence Group Series based on the instructions in the Polycom Administrator’s Guide.
This is the end of the video.
